The wife of Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson helped solve a church burglary.

Tenille Watson called her husband Wednesday after she spotted a man lying in a ditch on North Ocoee Street.

When the sheriff arrived, the man was’t there anymore, but he found a trail of blood and a broken window at Northside Presbyterian Church.

Now 37-year-old John Possien has been charged with burglary and vandalism.

Comcast says it will offer 2 gigabit Internet service in Chattanooga.

It will be the fastest speed in the nation, twice as fast as EPB.

But Comcast’s service won’t be available to businesses.

The rollout starts in June, but Atlanta will be getting it first, this month.

Comcast has not yet said how much it will cost.

A new 1950s-style bar is coming to downtown Chattanooga.

The cocktail bar will be called Robar, which is Spanish for the owner’s name, Robert.

It will be located between the Blue Plate and Hennen’s on Chestnut Street.

It’s expected to open this month.

An Ooltewah doctor has lost his license after investigators say he prescribed narcotics without seeing patients.

Authorities say family practitioner Robert Alan Coles worked with an online company to illegally prescribe drugs.

A state order also says Coles fraudulently prescribed drugs to his wife even though he knew she was misusing them.

He’s been ordered to pay more than $55,000 dollars.

Some Bradley County firefighters claim their chief falsified his certification.

A formal complaint alleges that Troy Maney received certification for testing that took place April 7 in La Vergne, but that there’s no way he could have been there.

The complaint also says no members of the department’s training staff have witnessed the chief complete any testing.

The state firefighting commission is investigating.

Chattanooga and Hamilton County are demanding that a local business pay them back for a tax break after the company didn’t meet its obligations.

It’s apparently the first time that’s ever happened.

Alstom Power promised to add 300 new jobs by the end of 2014.

In return, its property taxes were mostly waived for about 18 years.

But the company created only 140 new jobs, less than half what was promised.

Last year Alstom’s tax breaks totaled $2 million dollars.

But according to the mayor, Alstom contends it doesn’t owe any money.

A woman has been found guilty of killing a gas station clerk in hopes of winning the Georgia lottery.

It happened at a Kanku’s Express in Whitfield County in 2014.

22-year-old Skyy Mims has been convicted in the murder of 37-year-old Dahyabhai Chaudhari.

She faces at least 30 years in prison.

Attending a cockfight in Tennessee now has tougher penalties.

For years, the only punishment was a $50 dollar fine. During one recent bust, spectators reportedly laughed at deputies.

Now a new law sends spectators to nearly a year in jail, and bringing a child to a fight is punishable with a thousand dollar fine.

The mysterious death of a UTC student has been ruled accidental.

24-year-old Ali Ali was found on McLellan Island in January after he had been missing for almost two weeks.

Authorities still don’t know much about where he was while he was missing.

But police say toxicological testing was negative, and an autopsy showed no evidence of foul play.

Ali reportedly died of hypothermia. The investigation remains open.

The frozen pork roast was reportedly served to students in Hawkins County April 22nd.

A judge’s son is charged with DUI after allegedly speeding past the courthouse.

Bryce Steelman is the son of Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper stopped the 21-year-old on Sunday.

Steelman admitted to drinking two or three beers, and the deputy found two open bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

He’s been released from jail on bond and is set to appear in court May 18th.

The vessel has been stuck on the shore of the Tennessee River for six years now.

Developer Allen Casey brought it here with hopes of creating a floating restaurant.

Now, barring weather problems or unexpected delays, Gulfstream Enterprises will tow the vessel away.

It’s headed to the Gulf of Mexico to be scrapped.

A Tennessee doctor who had an affair with a patient has received a worse punishment than Scott DesJarlais, who had sex with two patients.

Murfreesboro doctor Brad Blankenship underwent a treatment program, had his medical license revoked, and was fined $5,000 dollars.

In comparison, the state board of medical examiners gave DesJarlais a $500 dollar fine and a reprimand.

And despite the sexual misconduct, DesJarlais was re-elected last year to a third term in Congress.

The city’s first Latin Festival is being held Saturday.

Chattanooga State Community College is hosting the event at the Highland Park Commons.

It will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a soccer game, a fashion show, and a parade of nations.

A Tennessee teen has drowned after saving a friend in a Georgia lake.

It happened at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta Sunday.

17-year-old Nirmal Rai and his friends were trying to swim from one island to another when he jumped in to help.

Unfortunately he went under during the rescue.

He was originally from Nepal but lived in Nashville.

Governor Bill Haslam says he’ll sign a bill allowing the use of cannabis oil in Tennessee.

The measure allows certain amounts to be used for the treatment of seizures, particularly for children.

He says he’ll sign the bill as soon as the end of this week. The law will go into effect immediately.

Two men have been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing at Sugar’s Lounge in Chattanooga.

Police have arrested 50-year-old Ernest Carthorn and 32-year-old Jamaul Herman.

Police say Robert Peck was stabbed multiple times. The fight reportedly started over a woman.

Four finalists have been announced for the president position at Chattanooga State Community College.

They are: Karla Fisher, vice president at Butler Community College in Kansas.

Kevin Pollock, president of St. Clair County Community College in Michigan.

Roger Ramsammy, provost at Northern Virginia Community College.

And Flora Tydings, president of Athens Technical College in Georgia.

The finalists will participate in campus forums next week. A permanent president should be named by July.

Regions Bank has been fined $7.5 million dollars for illegally charging customers for overdraft protection.

The bank, which is one of the biggest in Chattanooga, has already refunded $49 million dollars in fees to customers.

Officials say the fine could have been much higher if the bank hadn’t self-reported the violation.

Finally, New refueling stations for trucks powered by natural gas are being built in the area.

A $2 million dollar station is being built this summer in Dalton. Another may be built in Chattanooga within the next year.

A Soddy-Daisy man is accused of raping a girl five times.

Authorities say the rapes happened last year. In two instances, the girl was under the age of 13.

Now 26-year-old Ricky Minor has been booked into the Hamilton County jail.

Police have closed an investigation into a school employee accused of inappropriately touching a student.

The man was suspended from East Ridge Elementary School without pay in March.

But now police say they’ve closed the case because the man died last week.

However, a Child Protective Services investigation is ongoing.

Another Tennessee Vols football player has been named as a suspect in a rape investigation.

Police say a 19-year-old UT student reported the alleged rape near campus Friday morning.

Now wide receiver Von Pearson has been suspended from the team.

Police say two other Vols were among six witnesses.

In November, linebacker AJ Johnson and cornerback Michael Williams were also suspended amid a rape investigation. Their trial is set for August.

Governor Bill Haslam has signed a bill allowing guns at parks, playgrounds and ballfields in Tennessee.

The new law immediately overrides city and county bans.

It’s a move House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh calls quote, “an absolute failure of leadership.”

Haslam, who consistently opposed the bill, said this version is a vast improvement, because it won’t allow guns at school-related activities in parks. But critics say the law is vague and ripe for a challenge.
