A man who fell 40 feet inside Parkway Towers has died.

17-year-old Asher Mendonsa fell inside the abandoned building in 2005.

He was in a coma for weeks.

His back and neck were broken, his legs didn’t work, and he had serious brain injuries.

He died April 21st, almost ten years after the fell.

The trial has started for an aspiring model accused of killing a gas station clerk in Dalton.

Skyy Mims is charged in the murder of 37-year-old Dahyabhai Chaudhari in 2014.

When investigators found him stabbed to death, they also spotted a cellphone the 21-year-old woman allegedly left behind.

And when police found Mims in a house, she was naked and alone, begging them to end her life. They also found a knife with the victim’s blood and a stack of lottery tickets from the store.

Prosecutors say Mims became fixated on winning the Georgia lottery’s $500 dollars a week for life game.

But Mims’ attorney maintains that her client is innocent and that it’s all a case of mistaken identity.

Volkswagen’s chairman has resigned after a dispute over the CEO.

78-year-old Ferdinand Piech is a major figure in the German auto industry.

Earlier this month he said in an interview that he was distancing himself from chief executive Martin Winterkorn.

But that stance was rejected by other board members, who said he had not consulted with them.

A woman was found dead inside a house in DeKalb County Alabama Saturday.

Police spent the weekend searching for the homeowner, Doug Minor, and another woman, Norma Jo Grinnell.

Both were found in an abandoned chicken house in Cherokee County Sunday.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says Grinnell appears to be a victim and is not being charged.

Minor has been charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping.

The identity of the dead woman has not been released.

A judge’s son is charged with DUI after allegedly speeding past the courthouse.

Bryce Steelman is the son of Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper stopped the 21-year-old on Sunday.

Steelman admitted to drinking two or three beers, and the deputy found two open bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

He’s been released from jail on bond and is set to appear in court May 18th.

A Chattanooga man has been charged with child rape.

23-year-old Jamario Nicholson has been booked into the Hamilton County Jail.

The incident allegedly happened in 2007, when he was 16 years old.

He’ll be tried as an adult.

A Soddy-Daisy man is accused of raping a girl five times.

Authorities say the rapes happened last year. In two instances, the girl was under the age of 13.

Now 26-year-old Ricky Minor has been booked into the Hamilton County jail.

Police have closed an investigation into a school employee accused of inappropriately touching a student.

The man was suspended from East Ridge Elementary School without pay in March.

But now police say they’ve closed the case because the man died last week.

However, a Child Protective Services investigation is ongoing.

Another Tennessee Vols football player has been named as a suspect in a rape investigation.

Police say a 19-year-old UT student reported the alleged rape near campus Friday morning.

Now wide receiver Von Pearson has been suspended from the team.

Police say two other Vols were among six witnesses.

In November, linebacker AJ Johnson and cornerback Michael Williams were also suspended amid a rape investigation. Their trial is set for August.

A Georgia high school teacher is arrested after police say she had sex with three male students.

42-year-old Phoebe Chapman taught at Lowndes High School in Valdosta.

She’s been charged with sexual assault and resigned from her job.

Thousands of Georgia residents can finally graduate from high school… in some cases, decades late.

Four years ago the state dropped its high school graduation test, which had been mandatory since the 1980s.

Now the state has decided to allow students who did everything right, but flunked that test, to get their diploma.

An estimated 8,000 people are eligible.

Governor Bill Haslam has signed a bill allowing guns at parks, playgrounds and ballfields in Tennessee.

The new law immediately overrides city and county bans.

It’s a move House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh calls quote, “an absolute failure of leadership.”

Haslam, who consistently opposed the bill, said this version is a vast improvement, because it won’t allow guns at school-related activities in parks. But critics say the law is vague and ripe for a challenge.
